TURMERIC

Introduction:

Turmeric plants grow up to 2-3 feet in height, having green leaves. Roots are yellow and are used as spice in kitchen and as medicine in Ayurveda. The plant is similar to Ginger. Turmeric is suggested to be taken with black pepper as Anupana as it enhances effect of turmeric with higher absorption rate.

Uses:

1. Cough and cold: Before sleeping eat a small piece of roasted turmeric. Drink warm milk adding turmeric powder. Also helps in Asthmatic cough.

2. For reddening of eyes, apply paste of turmeric and alum around eyes. Useful in other eye problems also, put turmeric and alum powder in muslin cloth give heat to this and apply on eyelids after closing eyes.

3. Inflammation and pain: Apply paste of turmeric mixed with salt on affected part. Useful in joint pain and arthritis also.

4. Purify Blood and treat skin conditions. Applying paste of turmeric gives glow to skin. May also be used as mask and on treatment of acne and pimples.

5. Dental Problems: Mixture of Turmeric and Salt if applied on gums and teeth, treats many dental problems like inflammation of gums, bleeding teeth etc.

6. Gastro Intestinal Problems: Useful in all gastro-intestinal problems like dyspepsia, indigestion and diarrhea. Paste of turmeric is applied on bleeding piles for immediate relief.

7. Paste is useful for wound healing, to heal sours, ring worms and for insect bites.

8. Useful to control diabetes.

9. Boosts immunity.
