Introduction:
Plant goes up to 8-10 feet in height, like lemon plant, branches have thorns and long green leaves. Flowers are white with pink dots. Fruits are large oblong narrowing sharp/pointed on top, fleshy red pulp inside with fragrance, yellow from outside. Pulp is sweet. Fruits and roots are used in Ayurveda.
Uses:
- Fruit is an appetizer, pulp given with honey, relieves other peptic and digestive problems like abdominal colic, gastric ulcer etc.
- To treat hiccups fruit juice is given with honey and a pinch of black salt.
- To treat vomiting, juice of roots to be given with honey, add saffron if vomiting is with diarrhea.
- Urinary stones are treated with fruit powder mixed with rock salt.
- Decoction of dried peels is useful to keel intestinal worms.
- For Ear pain, instill warm drops of fruit juice, adding juice of ginger.
- Pulp improves absorption power hence given for weight gain.
- Sharbat prepared from pulp and sharkara gives an overall cooling effect to the body.
