Introduction:
Saffron is mainly produced in Kashmir, Iran, and Spain. Kashmiri saffron is best as it’s stigmas/strands are thin and red in colour with best fragrance. The plant grows up to around 1 foot in height, having an underground corm producing leaves and flowering stalks. It has purple flowers during autumn, with six petals and three red-orange stigmas. Dried stigmas are sold as saffron which is used in Ayurveda.
Uses:
- Saffron paste in milk is used to give warm and glowing skin, remove dark circles under the eyes, treats acne and infections on skin.
- Effective on swellings, inflammation, and stiffness, apply paste externally.
- Helps to cure respiratory problems like cough, cold and asthma, add 2-3 strands in your morning tea.
- Saffron is revitalizer, boosts immunity and vigor, and is helpful in insomnia, take 2-3 strands in warm milk before going to sleep.
- Saffron is an aphrodisiac, stimulates libido, useful in infertility.
- Saffron is a mood enhancer, helps to relieve stress.
- Kesar paste in milk is applied on forehead to relieve headache and fever.
- To remove intestinal worms, give 2-3 strands in warm milk.
