Introduction:
There are many varieties of this plant like Euphorbia hirta, Euphorbia thymifolia, Euphorbia pilulifera etc. Two varieties called badi dudhi and chhoti dudhi are useful in ayurvedic medicines. In all varieties we find milky liquid oozing out when stem/leaf is broken. Badi dudhi grows up to 1-2 feet high with reddish stems and green leaves. Chhoti Dudhi spreads on ground and have smaller leaves. Flowers are clustered and found at the root of leaves.
Stem leaves and root juice/ powder is used as medicine. All parts of the plant have medicinal value. Entire plant is dried, and powder is prepared for use when fresh plant is not available.
Uses:
- Decoction of plant is used to treat asthma and cough.
- Powder/ decoction is used in treatment of diarrhea and dysentery with blood, abdominal pain and to kill abdominal worms.
- Latex/decoction is useful in skin disorders like acne, warts, ringworms, vitiligo etc. Improves skin colour.
- Poultice of leaves is applied on swellings and boils. Also applied on snake bite.
- Juice of plant is useful to improve immunity.
- Useful in gynecological disorders, given for irregular menstruation.
- For bleeding from nose, powder is given with sugar and cow milk.
- For hair fall, juice of plant is applied on the scalp. This also removes white hairs.
Not to be used during pregnancy.
