Introduction:
It’s a woody climber plant found all over India. Stems are weak having ovate leaves covered with small hairs. Flowers are yellowish green. Fruits have Sheep’s horn shape, name Meshshringi and Mendhsingi is due to that. Leaves, roots and flowers are used in ayurvedic preparations.
Uses:
- Powder of leaves up to five grams is given before meal to control diabetes. Alternatively, if fresh leaves are available, it may be chewed or juice may be consumed.
- Crushed leaves are boiled in water till reduced to 1/4th, this decoction is given for few days to control obesity.
- Paste of leaves is applied on affected parts to cure wounds and other skin diseases.
- Root paste or juice is applied externally on snake bites.
- Powder of leaves/roots are effective on cough, bronchitis and asthma.
- Fresh juice of leaves is consumed as appetizer and lever tonic.
