Introduction:

This shrub grows wild throughout India. Small green leaves ovate in shape and small white flowers found on a bunch having seeds within. On bunch we find two leaves. There are two varieties of this herb Leucas aspera and Leucas cephalotes. Whole plant leaves and flowers are used for medicinal purpose. Juice is mostly used in Ayurveda which is pungent in taste. Used in worshiping Lord Shiva.

Uses:

1. In treatment of Sinusitis, migraine, headache, Cough and Cold, phlegm two drops of fresh leaf juice is put into both nostrils. In asthma leaf juice is useful.

2. Juice or paste of leaves is applied on snake bite, scorpion bite. Also few drops are instilled in nostrils for treatment of venom.

3. In all lever ailments, decoction or fresh juice is useful.

4. In fever give leaf juice with black pepper powder. May add giloy and neem powder for old fever.

5. On inflammation and swelling, boil leaves in water and prepare paste for applying externally on affected parts. Decoction may also be used to wash wounds.

6. Useful on skin diseases like eczema, scabies, psoriasis, allergies etc. Apply paste of leaves in boiled water.

7. Leaf juice is useful in digestive problems like stomach pain, gas, indigestion etc. Improves appetite.
